Gibson 2024 Flying V Custom Silverburst Custom Shop Excellent

Here we have another guitar traded in by one of our best customers, a local player who surrounds himself with vintage to modern guitars.  He applies some upgrades, always with care so they are reversible.  This guitar has locking tuners and a jumbo refret.

Ted McCarty and Gibson introduced the Flying V in 1958 as part of the "Modernistic" series in a deliberate attempt to produce something so visually forward-looking that it would redefine what an electric guitar could look like. The original production run sold poorly and was discontinued within two years, leaving a small number of instruments that became some of the most valuable and sought-after vintage electric guitars in existence. The Flying V Custom is the Custom Shop's interpretation of this design with Les Paul Custom-level appointments.  It is one of the most sought-after Flying V configurations to come out of the Gibson Custom Shop, using the '58 V as a template with string-through-body bridge setup, Custom '59 neck profile, and multi-ply binding. 

The deep metallic silver-to-black burst, applied in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer over the mahogany body, is one of Gibson's most visually arresting finishes on any platform. The Custom '59 neck profile at .918" at the first fret and 1.031" at the tenth is the full, comfortable hand-filling shape that Custom Shop players associate with the best-feeling Gibson necks. The ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl block inlays and multi-ply body binding are the Les Paul Custom-level appointments that distinguish the Flying V Custom from the standard production V.

The 490R humbucker in the neck provides warmth and clarity, while the 498T in the bridge delivers bold, aggressive drive with enhanced mids and increased output. Individual volume controls for each pickup and a master tone control make it easy to shape your sound across the full tonal range. Both pickups read 8.01k — well matched and correctly specified. Wiring and solder joints are original. 

The guitar has been refretted to jumbo frets. The original frets are included in the case. Two of the three potentiometers have been replaced, with the originals included in the case. The tailpiece V-shaped anchor plate has been replaced with a standard unit — the original V-plate is included in the case.  We aren't sure why this was changed out.  The Kluson Revolution Series tuners are non-original replacements, installed without headstock modification. In every case the relevant original part travels with the guitar, making a return to full factory specification straightforward if the next owner prefers it. Action is set at 2/32" on both strings at the twelfth fret. At 7 lbs 4 oz this is a notably light Flying V. Certificate of Authenticity, tags, and original documentation included. Original Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case in excellent condition.
