When it comes to electric guitars, basic is better.  Les Paul and SG Jrs shine as some of the best sounding axes out there, and this extremely clean SG Jr is no exception.

The guitar is in beautiful shape.  The cherry color is strong and stands out compared to commonly faded cherry examples.

The guitar is 100% original with no changes or repairs whatsoever.  There are some typical but small signs of age - the pickguard shows a small shrinkage crack, and the nut has a small chip on the bass side that does not affect playability.

The neck is straight and there is room in the truss rod for future neck relief adjustments.  The frets show some light use - far less than most guitars you'll see out there.

A guitar that weights under 6 pounds is pure joy.  This one weighs in at 5.5 pounds!

The case is a late 60s/early 70s Gibson rectangle case - a rare one indeed.

This 1965 Gibson SG Junior is a classic player’s guitar from the golden age of Gibson electrics. Featuring the desirable wide 1 11/16" nut, this SG Junior offers a comfortable playing feel and the unmistakable punch of its single dog-ear P-90 pickup. Known for its simplicity and raw power, the SG Junior has been favored by punk, rock, and blues players who value direct tone and vintage character.

This particular example includes its original Gibson rectangle hard case, adding both collectibility and protection. With its lightweight mahogany body, wraparound bridge, and 1960s craftsmanship, the 1965 SG Junior delivers vintage resonance and dynamic response that modern reissues can’t match.

A perfect choice for musicians seeking an authentic vintage Gibson with classic style and tone, or for collectors searching for a clean late-’60s Junior with the wider nut profile.

At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every guitar is carefully inspected, professionally set up, and documented with detailed photography, so you can buy with confidence.
