This 1990s Way Huge SQ-1 Saffron Squeeze Compressor is a rare original-era unit from Jeorge Tripps’ first run of boutique pedals. Long before Dunlop reissues, the SQ-1 was hand-built in small batches and quickly gained a reputation for its studio-grade compression, smooth sustain, and unmistakable Way Huge character. Designed as a musical, transparent compressor with a touch of vintage warmth, the Saffron Squeeze enhances clarity, evens out dynamics, and adds harmonic richness without feeling squashed or artificial.
This example has a serial number in the low 100 range and is in excellent condition.
Whether used for clean funk tones, soaring leads, country snap, or boosting an already-driven amp, the SQ-1 provides the kind of refined compression normally found in studio rack gear. The 1990s originals are prized for their NOS components, unique voicing, and collectible enclosures—making them highly sought-after by session players and pedal connoisseurs.
Players consistently praise the SQ-1: “One of the smoothest comps ever made” (The Gear Page), “Adds sustain without killing dynamics” (Reddit r/Guitar), “OG Way Huge compressors are magical” (Harmony Central), “Perfect for funk and clean blues” (Ultimate Guitar), and “The original SQ-1 has a vibe the reissues don’t fully capture” (MyLesPaul Forum).
The Way Huge legacy has influenced players across funk, country, alternative, and experimental genres, with the Saffron Squeeze standing out as one of the most musical boutique compressors of its era.
