I can never get enough amps, especially examples like this '64 black panel, Pre CBS Deluxe Reverb.  I went through the amp as I do with every vintage piece that hits our site, and I was amazed at the cleanliness inside and out.  I did replace the electrolytic caps, re-housing them in the original Astron cardboard covers.  I am always careful to replace only what is needed to preserve the amps as much as possible.

This Deluxe Reverb in near mint, original condition throughout — cabinet, chassis, tolex, grille, baffle, handle, knobs, and all four transformers are original and unmodified. The filter caps have been replaced and the amp has been lightly serviced, which is exactly what you want in a 60-year-old amp you plan to actually play. The Oxford 12" speaker has been reconed but is otherwise original. The amp runs strong & quiet, reverb and vibrato both function, and it presents as a clean, well-preserved example of one of the most player-focused vintage Fender combos ever built.

The Deluxe Reverb debuted in late 1963 as part of Fender's blackface transition and by 1964 had settled into the configuration that defines the model: 22 watts (conservatively rated; often cited as 20-22W in period documentation), 6V6 power section, tube-driven reverb and vibrato, and a single 12" speaker in an open-back pine cabinet. The 1964 date is confirmed by both the serial number and component date codes. Among blackface Deluxe Reverbs, early production examples from 1963–65 are the most sought after, and the transformers — all four Schumacher units dating to 1963–64 — are intact and correct. This is a pre-CBS instrument; CBS acquired Fender in January 1965.

The pine cabinet and pine baffle are original and structurally sound. The black tolex shows far less than standard wear. The silver sparkle grille is original and in excellent condition. The Schumacher power transformer dates to the 33rd week of 1964 (code 606-4-33); the output transformer to the 31st week of 1964 (606-4-31); the choke to the 34th week (606-4-34); and the reverb transformer to the 30th week (606-4-30). The Oxford 12" speaker carries manufacturer code 465 and cone code 2192 — the cone has been professionally replaced. Power tubes are RCA 6V6, rectifier is an Amperex GZ34, and preamp complement includes Telefunken among the 12AT7/12AX7/7025 contingent. Original pots throughout. The amp measures 24-3/4" wide x 18" tall x 9-1/2" deep and weighs 37 lbs 5 oz.

The speaker cone is not original — it has been re-coned. Filter caps, bypass caps, and bias cap are all replaced. The power cord has been upgraded to a grounded three-prong.  The pots and tube sockets were cleaned.  The tubes were all tested. These are standard, appropriate service items and do not affect collector integrity the way a transformer or chassis replacement would. All other components are original. The amp comes with its original Victoria Luggage Co. white amp cover in very good condition, and the original two-button footswitch (reverb/vibrato) in very good condition is included.

Shipping Policy
By completing your purchase you are agreeing to this shipping policy. Shipments require signature on delivery, no exceptions. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely. If there is damage, retain all packing materials intact, photograph them immediately, and send the photos to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.

Amplifiers: We take additional precautions to prevent common shipping damage. Depending on the amp, this may include removing tubes, pulling the chassis from the cabinet if heavy transformers present a drop risk, or removing heavy speakers that could crack baffles in transit. Reassembly is required on delivery — we label everything clearly. These measures add to shipping costs but reflect hard-won experience. Vintage amplifiers (20 years or older) are sold as-is — all amps are tested in our shop upon intake and again before shipping. We cover shipping damage but cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in instruments that are 20 to 50-plus years old.
