This 1987 Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120 is a classic example of one of the most iconic solid-state amplifiers ever built. Known for its ultra-clean headroom, crystalline clarity, and the legendary stereo analog chorus, the JC-120 has been a favorite of studio players, jazz guitarists, new-wave artists, and alternative rock icons since the late 1970s. The dual 60-watt power amps and two 12" speakers deliver wide, dimensional sound with stunning definition—ideal for pedals, ambient effects, and complex chord voicings.
The JC-120’s built-in Chorus/Vibrato, Spring Reverb, and stereo vibrato effects helped define countless recordings throughout the ’80s, giving this amp its unmistakable shimmering presence. Its reliability, road-worthy construction, and consistent performance made it a must-have for touring musicians who needed pristine tone in any situation.
Legendary players such as Andy Summers, Robert Smith, James Hetfield, Johnny Marr, Wes Borland, Billy Duffy, and many studio guitarists relied on the JC-120 for its sparkling cleans and lush stereo field. By 1987, the amp was firmly established as the industry standard for clean solid-state tone, especially in genres where articulation and pedal clarity are essential.
This 1987 example is in excellent working condition and delivers the wide, spacious sound the JC-120 is known for. It shows use, cosmetically, but not abuse. The Middle EQ knob is a bit ugly looking. I can't seem to get it to come off the potentiometer and don't want to force it.
At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every amp is tested, photographed accurately, and described with care.
