Fender Super Amp 6GA-4 Brown Tolex Wheat Grille 1962 Serviced

This amp is outrageously awesome - an extremely clean Fender Super 6GA-4 from 1962.

The amp came in showing signs that it hadn't been turned on and used in decades, which was great for the cosmetic condition of the amp, but some service was required to get it up to speed.

I changed out the filter caps and added a grounded power cable, bypassing the ground switch and "death cap".  Two electrolytic caps in the circuit were physically leaking, so they were replaced with Jupiter caps.  The bias circuit diode was looking rough, so I changed that as well.  Lastly, the original gold Oxford speaker cones had dried out to such a degree that they literally just crumbled.  I had the speakers reconed by Speaker Repair Pros in southern California.

We gave the amp a gentle but proper cleaning, tested the tubes and ran it up on a variac. 

Now the amp is absolutely killing it, running quiet and strong, and it has the swimmiest vibrato too.

The Everything but the maintenance changes listed above is original - transformers, the handle (which is fully intact), the tolex, grille, back panels, along with every screw.  I retained all the parts I replaced with the exception of the bias diode.

The tubes are likely original, including the Tung Sol 5881 power tubes.  All tested well on our tester.  Two preamp tunes are a little microphonic, but they don't squeal when the amp is operated, even at high volumes.

The original vibrato pedal is included - a rarity!
