The Danelectro Bellzouki 7010 is a single-pickup 12-string built on a poplar frame with Masonite top and back — a construction method that produces a bright, slightly hollow tone with prominent midrange and a distinct jangly character well-suited to the 12-string format. At 6 lbs 6 oz with a 24.5" scale, it plays lighter and easier than other electric 12-string, with lower string tension and a wide 1-3/4" nut. The single lipstick-tube pickup delivers the classic Danelectro sound: glassy with a cutting high-end that works well for chordal playing and arpeggiated parts. This example is in excellent overall condition, with original finish in very good shape and all original components intact throughout.

The Bellzouki was introduced by Danelectro in the early 1960s, marketed as a cross between a guitar and a bouzouki — hence the name. The 7010 designation identifies the single-pickup version of the model. These were part of Danelectro's broader effort to offer unusual and affordable instruments during a period of high demand for exotic sounds, driven in part by the folk revival and early rock and roll. The zebrawood-style body shape and the use of Masonite over a poplar frame are characteristic of the era's Danelectro production. Brazilian rosewood on the fretboard was standard for the period and adds warmth to the upper register. The Kluson skate-key tuners are correct for the model and present here in original, excellent condition. These guitars are increasingly difficult to find complete and unmodified.

The guitar has no issues and plays perfectly. The original Brown Burst finish shows typical light play wear consistent with its age but grades very good overall. The body, neck, and fretboard are all excellent with no repairs. The original riveted tortoiseshell pickguard is present and in excellent condition. All solder joints, wiring, pots, knobs, switch, and output jack are original. Action measures 2/32" on both the first and sixth strings at the 12th fret. Comes with a generic gig bag in good condition; no original case.
