The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special is one of the more tonally specific instruments in the SE lineup — built around a swamp ash body and 25" scale length, a combination that produces a distinctly different voice from the mahogany-bodied, 25" SE models that make up most of the catalog. Swamp ash is the tonewood that defined the earliest Fender Telecaster and Stratocaster production — lightweight, resonant, with an open grain structure that produces pronounced high-end articulation, a scooped midrange, and a clear, snappy attack that mahogany and alder don't replicate. On a 25" scale with the Wide Thin neck profile, the Swamp Ash Special plays and sounds closer to the Fender end of the tonal spectrum than any other PRS SE model — deliberately so, and executed with PRS's characteristic precision.

The HSH pickup configuration is the instrument's tonal engine. The 85/15 "S" humbuckers — PRS's TCI-voiced design named for the frequency targets Paul Reed Smith set for the pickup — read 9.23k neck and 10.15k bridge, balanced for the warm, open character that PRS consistently voices into this pickup series. The AS-01 single-coil in the middle position reads 5.89k, an RWRP unit designed to cancel hum in the blended positions while providing the clear, glassy character of a single-coil in the center position. The 3-way toggle with the HSH layout gives humbuckers-only simplicity at the extremes and the blended tones in the middle. Wide Thin maple neck at .809" at the first fret and .887" at the twelfth is fast and comfortable, and the 10" radius maple fingerboard with abalone bird inlays plays cleanly across the full 22-fret range. PRS patented tremolo with original arm, 18:1 ratio PRS-designed tuners, amber knobs. One honest note: the bridge pickup mounting ring has a small ding, visible in the photos. Near mint condition otherwise. Action set at 2/32" on both strings at the twelfth fret. At 8 lbs this is a well-balanced instrument. Original PRS gig bag included.
