The Mesa Boogie Road King II is the most feature-complete production tube amplifier Mesa ever built — and Mesa built the most feature-complete production tube amplifiers of anyone. Four fully independent channels. Twelve preamp modes. Five selectable power configurations via Progressive Linkage. Channel-assignable rectifier switching between tube 5U4 and silicon diode per channel. Channel-assignable speaker output selection. Dual series effects loops, each assignable per channel. All-tube long spring reverb per channel. A generous footswitch that controls all of it. No other production amplifier has approached this level of internal circuit variety from a single chassis, and none has done it with the component quality and point-to-point construction that characterizes a Petaluma-built Mesa.
The Progressive Linkage system is the technical achievement that defines the Road King II and separates it from everything else. The six power tubes — four 6L6 and two EL34 — can be deployed in five configurations: 2x6L6, 2xEL34, 2x6L6 plus 2xEL34, 4x6L6, and 4x6L6 plus 2xEL34. Each configuration delivers a genuinely different power amplifier character — the 6L6 pairs are elastic and American, the EL34 pair is urgent and British, the combinations produce hybrid textures that no single-tube-type amplifier can replicate — and each of those configurations can be independently assigned to each of the four channels and switched via footswitch. Recto Tracking automatically selects the correct rectifier for the power section in use: one 5U4 tube for smaller configurations, two 5U4 tubes for medium configurations, silicon diodes for full power operation at 120 watts. The result is that channels 1 through 4 can each be configured as a genuinely different amplifier from input jack to speaker, covering everything from high-headroom clean to loose vintage crunch to tightly rectified modern high gain, each with its own power section and rectifier character.
The four channels offer three modes each. Channels 1 and 2 cover Clean, Fat, and Tweed (channel 1) and Clean, Fat, and Brit (channel 2) — the clean voices drawn from Mesa's acclaimed Lone Star circuit, the Tweed mode referencing classic cathode-bias American character, and the Brit mode delivering the urgent EL34 texture the Channel 2 power assignment was designed to serve. Channels 3 and 4 replicate the Dual Rectifier's Raw, Vintage, and Modern high-gain modes, each combinable with any of the five power sections.
This example is in beautifully clean condition and is housed in the Mesa Custom Shop flamed maple cabinet — dovetail-joined solid flamed maple construction with natural finish, the visual and tonal alternative to the standard vinyl-covered production instrument. The solid wood construction contributes to the resonant character of the cabinet alongside the dual Celestion MC-90 speakers, Mesa's exclusive Celestion Custom 90 — a UK-made design that delivers tight controlled low end, authoritative midrange, and composed top end without the pronounced frequency emphasis of the Vintage 30 or the aggression of the G12T-75. Filter caps are original. All transformers are original. We tested all the tubes to make sure they're good to go. Cover and footswitch are included.

Shipping policy:
When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. These cases require the buyer to re-install them on delivery - it is very easy with this amp, and we label them so you know exactly where to put them. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
