The Ibanez Professional Model 2671 (1977) is one of the most sought-after Japanese-made guitars of the late 1970s, built during Ibanez’s golden era at the famed FujiGen factory. Part of the Professional Series, the 2671 was designed to rival high-end U.S. instruments in quality, craftsmanship, and detail, and it remains a prized collectible today.

This example is kind of interesting, resembling the Randy Scruggs model, but without the vine inlay on the neck.  I looked for quite a while, and I couldn't find another example with dot inlays and the abalone purfling around the top of the body.  Everything I saw had split pearloid/abalone inlays or the typical Scruggs vine inlay.

The frets appear to have been professionally replaced.  They are in excellent shape.  The neck is straight and the truss rod has room for future neck relief adjustment.  The hardware and electronics are all original.  It does appear that two solder joints were changed, but everything is original.

There is some standard wear here and there- see the pics for detail.

Featuring a set-neck construction and beautifully grained tonewoods, the 2671 combines striking aesthetics with outstanding playability.

Outfitted with dual Ibanez Super 80 “Flying Finger” humbuckers, it delivers warm, articulate tones with clarity and sustain—perfect for rock, jazz, and fusion styles. Gold hardware, elaborate binding, and a carved top showcase the meticulous attention to detail Ibanez became known for during this period.  These pickups are some of the best sounding 70s humbuckers!

As a 1977 original, this Professional Model stands out as an investment-worthy guitar that reflects the era when Ibanez transitioned from “lawsuit” copies to world-class original designs. Collectors seek the 2671 for its rarity, craftsmanship, and unmistakable style, while players value its tone and reliability on stage and in the studio.

At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every guitar is carefully inspected, photographed, and set up to professional standards so you can buy with confidence.
