These original 1950s Grover “Milk Bottle” Patent Pending tuning machines are a highly desirable vintage hardware set, finished in classic nickel and complete with the correct mounting screws. Known for their distinctive keystone “milk bottle” shaped part that covers the worm shaft, these tuners were factory equipment on many high-end Gibson archtops, flattops, and electrics during Gibson’s golden era. They also were used on Martin acoustics and may Guild guitars, among others. Their smooth action, solid construction, and unmistakable look make them ideal for period-correct restorations or historically accurate upgrades.
The tuners show light, honest patina consistent with age, with no structural issues and smooth, functional operation. The original Patent Pending stamping dates them to the 1950s, before later patent-number versions. Collectors and luthiers value these Grovers for both authenticity and reliability, especially on models like vintage Gibson J-45s, Super 400s, and Martin D-28s.
All parts are inspected and accurately described by Mahar’s Vintage Guitars.
