This 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior is an exceptional example of one of the most iconic and purest designs in electric guitar history. This one is pretty much an ideal example.
Built during the golden era of Gibson production in Kalamazoo, this single-cut Junior features a solid Honduran mahogany body and neck, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, and a single P-90 “dog-ear” pickup that delivers explosive tone, dynamic response, and unmatched simplicity.
1959 Gibson guitars have the iconic, fat necks that made the Les Paul Standard the holy grail - you get that iconic feel with this Jr.
The guitar shows just the right amount of wear. The cherry color shows light fading, where some examples have turned brown, their light-sensitive red tint lost. The frets have been replaced, and the show some use. The neck and frets are played in, resulting in a killer feel and no issues with fretting out. The neck is straight and we checked the truss rod to make sure there is room for future neck relief adjustments.
We checked under the tuners, the pickup, and in the control cavity to make sure that everything but the frets is original, and that is in fact the case.
This guitar offers everything players love about a true vintage Junior—massive midrange growl, punchy attack, and rich harmonic overtones when driven. The wraparound tailpiece provides excellent sustain and direct string energy transfer, while the aged nitrocellulose finish showcases authentic character from decades of play.
At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every instrument is evaluated, photographed accurately, and professionally set up.
