This is the 1000th amp to cross our door since I reopened my vintage business during the depths of the COVID lockdown. It is kind of the perfect amp to commemorate this milestone!
The brownface Princeton 6G2 runs 12 watts through a 10" speaker in a simple, open circuit that breaks up early and responds directly to picking dynamics. Push-pull 6V6 output tubes into a relatively small baffle produce a focused midrange with quick, natural compression at moderate volume — the kind of breakup that works for recording and small-room performance without a master volume. It also works on stage, just ask Chris Stapleton. The onboard tremolo on the 6G2 is generated by a dedicated oscillator circuit rather than the bias-modulation approach used in later silverface designs, giving it a smooth, wave-like pulse that sits in the mix without chopping the signal. This example sounds clean at low volumes, breaks up convincingly in the middle of the dial, and the tremolo is fully functional.
The 6G2 Princeton was produced from 1961 through 1963, bridging the end of the tweed era's circuit philosophy and the cosmetic shift to the brownface cabinet. Unlike the earlier 5F2-A tweed Princeton, the 6G2 uses a push-pull pair of 6V6s rather than a single-ended output stage, which increases headroom and adds tremolo. The circuit shares meaningful topology with the 5E3 Deluxe — a cathodyne phase inverter, interactive volume and tone controls, and a second 12AX7 acting as a driver stage and tremolo oscillator. These amps have a strong following among recording engineers and players who need a compelling small amp with period-correct Fender character. The 1961–1963 production window is short, and original-condition examples are increasingly difficult to find.
The cabinet is pine, covered in original brown tolex in excellent condition, with original wheat grille cloth. The pine baffle is original and undamaged. The Oxford 10" speaker (manufacturer code 465, date code 223) is the correct original driver for this amp. The speaker has been reconed, which is common and expected in a working amp of this age. Both transformers are original Schumacher units: the power transformer (code 606, date code 243) and the output transformer (code 606, date code 237) date to the second half of 1962 and are consistent with the serial number dating. The rectifier is a 5Y3, output tubes are Sylvania 6V6s, and preamp tubes are GE 12AX7s. All the tubes were tested prior to listing and they are in great shape. Filter capacitors have been replaced, which is standard and responsible maintenance on any amp of this age. The power cable has been upgraded to a grounded three-prong — also standard practice.
Overall condition is excellent. The brown tolex, grille cloth, and cabinet are all original and present well. The chassis is original with no modifications beyond the cap replacement and power cable upgrade. All potentiometers are original. There are no cracks, repairs, or replaced panels anywhere in the cabinet or baffle.
The chassis carries no repairs beyond filter cap replacement and the grounded power cord upgrade. The original tremolo footswitch pedal is included and in excellent condition. The amp weighs 23 lbs. Cabinet dimensions: 19" wide x 16" high x 9.5" deep. No case or cover is included. No documentation.

Shipping Policy
By completing your purchase you are agreeing to this shipping policy. Shipments require signature on delivery, no exceptions. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely. If there is damage, retain all packing materials intact, photograph them immediately, and send the photos to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.
Amplifiers: We take additional precautions to prevent common shipping damage. Depending on the amp, this may include removing tubes, pulling the chassis from the cabinet if heavy transformers present a drop risk, or removing heavy speakers that could crack baffles in transit. Reassembly is required on delivery — we label everything clearly. These measures add to shipping costs but reflect hard-won experience. Vintage amplifiers (20 years or older) are sold as-is — all amps are tested in our shop upon intake and again before shipping. We cover shipping damage but cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in instruments that are 20 to 50-plus years old.
