Baltic Birch is a dense, resonant ply that Mesa has long favored for its rigidity and acoustic properties: it minimizes unwanted flex and coloration, letting the speakers do the work. The closed-back configuration tightens the low end and adds focus to the midrange compared to open-back designs, making this format a natural pairing for high-gain heads where definition matters. The maple front plate is a distinctive cosmetic and structural feature of this configuration. The cabinet is loaded with a matched pair of Electro-Voice Black Shadow 12\" speakers — each rated at 200 watts RMS for a combined 400 watts. The EV Black Shadow has a reputation for high efficiency, extended high-frequency response, and a notably tight, articulate character. Cone code 79195 is confirmed on both drivers.
