Both use Class A circuits with EL84 power tubes, and the AC30’s Top Boost circuit, added in the early 1960s, added a treble and bass control that became part of the classic Vox sound. Early amps are often paired with Celestion Alnico Blue speakers, which many players consider essential to the sound. Later in the 1960s, Thomas Organ built Vox amps in the United States, often with solid-state circuits, and over the following decades the brand passed through several owners, so the maker, model, and year all matter when you’re identifying a vintage Vox.

What drives value in a vintage Vox

Originality — original speakers, transformers, chassis, and cabinet covering matter significantly, and original Celestion Alnico Blue speakers add a great deal of value.

Era and maker — early JMI-built AC15 and AC30 amps, especially Top Boost models, command the highest prices.

Service history — capacitor replacement and other maintenance are normal on an amp this old.
