I've been watching Baxendale on the social medias for a while, admiring their work on these cool but not so great sounding acoustics from the 50s and 60s.  When an opportunity came up to trade for one I had to give it a whirl.

I don't have a reference for exactly what this guitar sounded like before the work was performed, but I have a very good idea from past experience.  These guitars always tempt me with their cool looks, but the ladder bracing and resulting lack of tone reverse my course.  I always harken back to an old friend's Harmony Sovereign that he'd acquired decades ago with similar work done to it, a guitar that was an anomaly in the late 90's.

Baxendale replaced the top bracing inside this guitar to an x braced pattern, the type we all like on Martins and Gibsons.  It allows the top to fibrate more freely than the original ladder bracing.  They replaced the bridge and reset the neck.

The guitar maintains its charm, and while it isn't suddenly a J-200 it is remarkably better than it would have been.  Action above the 12th fret is still a bit high, but the guitar is very, very playable.  They also repaired a top crack.

This would be the perfect add for someone who wants a cool acoustic with lots of character and wants to leave their expensive, vintage Gibson or Martin at home - a great guitar for camping, backyard fire circles, etc.  It is a conversation starter for sure, and a viable player that you'll love to strum and just look at.

Comes with a really nice flight case.
