The carved top contributes to a quick, immediate response with excellent note separation, making it ideal for fingerstyle playing, early blues, ragtime, and vintage acoustic styles. The smaller body size provides an intimate, responsive feel, while the instrument’s age adds a depth and maturity to the tone that is impossible to replicate in modern builds. offering.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf there is a fault in the design of the 5E7, it is the output transformer.  Shopping for a Tweed Bandmaster is a difficult task.  There never seems to be more than a couple available across the market.  Most have a replaced output transformer as it wasn't originally specified to handle the speaker load.  Such is the case for this example.  A vintage, paper wound replacement lives in this amp.  I am not sure of the origin of said transformer, but it is a great match in that the classic and amazing tone is there.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe power transformer is the original Triad.  The choke is original as well.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSpeakers have been replaced with Eminence MP10-PR Alnicos, another good choice in lieu of the original Jensens.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFilter caps have been replaced, and the circuit has seen work as well, with caps updated.  As I've noted, detailed in Fender Harvard amps that have come and gone, I've directly compared amps with updated caps, you'd be surprised how little difference there is in an amp with replaced Astron caps.  In one case in particular, a fully updated Harvard actually sounded better than one that was fully original.  In the end, all of these amps will eventually require full updates of original parts to be functional - old caps and resistors will only last so long and keeping a vintage amp all-original but out-of-spec is just a bad idea, however nostalgic the idea might be.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA grounded power cable and replacement handle round out the changes to the amp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs for the tone - it is just amazing.  Comparisons to other amps are moot - the effort is futile.  If you're looking for a Bandmaster you know what to These guitar amps were the first to employ a matched quartet of Sylvania\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e6V6GT\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eoutput tubes. The amps were offered with hardwood cabinets, or in a variety of vinyl-covered birch plywood cabinets in a variety of colors. The amps were built as 1-12\", or 1-10\" combos, or as a head. JBL E-120 speakers were offered as an option.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJim Kelley Amplifiers were also the first guitar amplifiers to be offered with an optional\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003epower attenuator.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eJim developed these high-power continuously variable L-pad attenuators as a means of controlling the overall volume of his amplifiers so that the output section could be overdriven at more modest sound pressure levels. One unique feature of these power attenuators is the remote footswitch which would allow the attenuator to be bypassed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFurther amplifier innovations were incorporated into the FACS (foot-activated channel switching) model, which built upon the single-channel design by including two similar switchable\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003epreamps\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eand\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003etone stacks, independent\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ereverb\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003elevel controls for each channel, and internal\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003erelay\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eswitching for the external power attenuator.
