This guitar is a refreshing new arrival - it really scratches the itch for an issue-free, vintage piece.

This is one of about 1150 SG Specials built in 1961, the first year of SG production.  My experience is that at least half of the early SGs I've run across have some issue - most of them significant.  This is likely why you see so many refinished examples, an attempt to cover nasty neck heel or headstock breaks.  Finding a clean piece like this is a real rarity.

Two changes are apparent, likely for the better: a replaced nut and a professional refret.  The frets do show light wear but have plenty of life remaining.

The guitar was in the care of the son of the original owner prior to its arrival here.  It was very lovingly cared for, though it was told to us that it was gigged early on.  It really is hard to tell!

The rest of the guitar is original, and there are no breaks, cracks or sign of stress that are so common on SGs.

Pots date to the 20th week of 1961.  The pickups drive an amp really nicely.  I plugged in to a pre CBS Concert the other day and could not believe my ears!  Then I added a Klon KTR into the mix and it was pure heaven!

The original case is icing on the cake.  Like the SG it holds, the case is an extremely clean example of its type that stands out as a true survivor.
