Magnatone Custom 280 Model 280-B High Fidelity 1960
$2,795.99This Magnatone came in from the daughter of the original owner. She reported that it hadn't been turned on for about 40 years! The amp was wrapped in what appeared to be an old table cloth. I removed it and found the original Victoria Luggage cover in nearly pristine condition. I knew I was in for a treat!
We ramped the amp up slowly with a variac and were so stoked when everything worked flawlessly. The amp then went off to my tech for a new power cable to replace the fossilized, crispy original one. He gave the circuit a clean bill of health and we've left it as such with the exception of the power cord and one component in the vibrato circuit - the speed control was not working properly, now the amp is 100% functional.
The amp is loaded with a host of awesome vintage tubes. Speakers are original and all work great. There is little wear on the amp, the largest sign of age is on the bottom, where it looks like the tolex adhered to some fabric it likely sat on for decades.
This amp works great. The tremolo and stereo vibrato are simply amazing. As with any vintage amp, maintenance can be needed at any time. We encourage the buyer of this amp to check it out immediately on arrival while taking it easy on this beautiful collector's piece. This isn't really an amp to turn on and crank to 11!
